About the site
Amulets Egyptian
Amulets Egyptian is an illustrated reference to ancient Egyptian amulets, created and written by Didier Attaix. It brings together rare and well-documented examples, from the Predynastic to the Roman Period, with the aim of making this field easier to explore for collectors, students and Egyptology enthusiasts.
How the collection is organised
Entries follow the classification proposed by Sir William Flinders Petrie in Amulets (1914): amulets of assimilation, power, possession and property, protection, and amulets of goddesses, gods and sacred animals. Sacred animals are classified according to Richard H. Wilkinson.
What each entry contains
- Photographs, with the museum or collection credited under each image
- Material, period, dimensions and inventory number when known
- Bibliographic references, such as Petrie (1914) and Andrews (1994)
Collecting and authenticity
The collecting guide and the pages on false amulets and identification and period give practical advice on recognising authentic pieces.
