Scarabs pushing a ball of faeces were assimilated to the daily travel of the sun god Khepri. Female scarabs deliver their eggs in the faeces of sheeps. The scarab thus became a symbol of spontaneous generation and rebirth. Scarabs mounted on rings were used as seals. There are also scaraboids. Scarab(oid)s diffused in all parts of the antique world, up to Russia. Discussing scarabs is outside this presentation. See for example1
