Cryosphinx on a column

The raised cobra or uraeus was at first a royal symbol placed on the fore-head of the king to destroy his enemies. The amulet did confer to the non-royal dead the protection usually provided to the king1. Such amulets are mainly in faience, but other materials were used¹
