The eye amulet, not to be confused with the wedjat, intended to improve sight1. It occured as early as Dynasty 5 and mostly disappeared until the Late Period2. Most are in faience. Few examples are in other materials, including in gold sheet of the Roman Period. The latter protected the eyes of a mummy to prevent the entry of malevolent forces2
